Selecting the option Notify me of new images for individual breaks (and clicking Update Settings) ensures a surfer will be notified when any photographer uploads images to a break they have selected, even if the surfer has not visited the wpsurf site during that time.

Any registered user of wpsurf may add surf breaks to My Breaks (Favourites) for quick access the next time they login to wpsurf. To add a break to My Breaks, simply perform a search or click down through the maps until you find the break you are interested in. Clicking on the break or performing a search will display the Search Results screen. Expanding the Break Search Results shows an Add to My Breaks (Favourites) icon. Clicking on this will add that break to My Breaks.

Break Search Results:

A number of columns are displayed in the My Breaks screen. The list may be sorted by any one of these columns by simply clicking on the column name. A second click will sort it in reverse order on that same column.

View map MAPS

- View the map on which the break is located.

Add Image Add Image(s)

- Add / Upload image(s) to this break.

This option is only available to approved Photographers.

View break Search Results

- Performs a search for that break.

Home Break

- Sets a break to be your 'home break'.

This option is only available to approved Photographers and Affiliates.

For a Photographer - The name of this break will show up when anyone views that Photographers profile.

For an Affiliate - This is also used to decide the map which will be shown on the affiliates 'mini-site'.

Remove

- Removes that break from My Breaks.

A number of different types of search may be performed on the wpsurf site.

Photographers will identify themselves as a wpsurf registered photographer at all times when taking photos that they later use on the wpsurf site. Without this identification, the vital link between anonymous surfers and the wpsurf site is not made. Photographers will make this link using custom material such as a flag and clothing.

Bearing in mind that the photographer does not need to have had any direct contact with the surfer...

• To give the surfers the best chance of identifying themselves in a photo it is important that the photo composition is close enough and clear enough for the surfer to be able to recognize themselves.
• The surfer can then simply searching for the break they were surfing at on a specific date (Basic Search (where and when)) to bring back any photos taken. The surfer can then look through them to find any photos of themselves or their friends.

  The surfer does not need to have had any direct contact with the photographer. Simply searching for the break you were surfing at on a specific date will bring back any photos taken. You can then look through them to find any photos of yourself or your friends.

  The most common (and simplest) search will usually be just searching by "where and when".

  

  If you enter a break name (or part of a break name), enter the date you are interested in and click on "Search", you will get back:

  • all the surf break(s) containing the letters you entered in the break name and
  • all the images taken at the break(s) on the date you entered.

  The search will only find breaks and images at the map region you are looking at (and anywhere below that region).

  So the search below would find all breaks in the world with the letter "P" in the break's name and all images taken at those breaks on the "31 Jan 2006":

  

  Whereas the search below would find all breaks in Ireland with the combination of letters "Peak" in the break's name and all images taken at those breaks on the "31 Jan 2006":

  

Once images have been found and added to My Cart, the images can be purchased and downloaded.

As WPSurf provides surf photos worldwide, we do not offer prints. What you have purchased is the digital version.

Clicking on an actual image thumbnail allows you to see a small "watermarked" version of the image with additional image information.

This includes the:

• Dimensions (pixels)
• Resolution (dpi - dots or pixels per inch)
• Size (in kb) of the image file that may be downloaded if purchased.

All images will have copyright information displayed below them consisting of the photographers "short name" and WPSurf.com.

This will also be present on the full size image when purchased and downloaded, but there will be no watermarking across the full size image.

If a number of images have been found in a search, you can scroll through all the images using the forward and back controls below these icons.

To help you identify yourself surfing, there is a 'Zoom Image' feature. The quality of this zoomed image is lower than the image you can purchase and download. Use the scroll bars to move around the image.

The default currency of the site is £ Pounds Sterling and the purchase price for all images is always given in £ Pounds Sterling but may be displayed (approximately) in five other currencies.

Simply select the desired currency from the selection available at the top right of the screen:

The exact cost (in currencies other than £ Sterling) will not be given until the Checkout option is selected and payment is actually being prepared using Paypal, as they set their own currency exchange rates.

This shows the number of breaks returned.

Below this you can configure how you would like the breaks arranged. You can change the number of "Breaks per Page" from the default of 16 to increase or decrease the number you will see at a time. By default only breaks containing images are found but you can also include breaks with no images by selecting the option show below and clicking the "Go!" button:

You can also change the "order" in which the breaks are displayed. The default order is the date added (meaning the date the break was added to the system), but this can be changed to any of the following:

• Date Added
• Location

For each break there are a number of pieces of information:

• Break Name
• Clicking here will re-submit the search but only bring back images for that specific break.
• Brief description of break
• Total number of images for that break (regardless of date taken)
• Clicking here will submit a new search to bring back all images for that specific break.

Unsold images are only retained on wpsurf for a certain amount of time.

Wpsurf will automatically delete images from the system at its own discretion, especially after having retained them for a period unsold. This period, as with all other reasons for deletion, remains a decision for wpsurf and can vary geographically, depending on sales in that area.

As surfers have a limited time to purchase their photos, this encourages new and fresh content to be always available on wpsurf.

If a photographer finds that some of their photos are not selling they might want to:

• first ensure that the composition is not the problem - Photographer Guidelines.
