The surfer does not need to have had any direct contact with the photographer. Simply searching for the break you were surfing at on a specific date will bring back any photos taken. You can then look through them to find any photos of yourself or your friends.
The most common (and simplest) search will usually be just searching by "where and when".

If you enter a break name (or part of a break name), enter the date you are interested in and click on "Search", you will get back:
The search will only find breaks and images at the map region you are looking at (and anywhere below that region).
So the search below would find all breaks in the world with the letter "P" in the break's name and all images taken at those breaks on the "31 Jan 2006":

Whereas the search below would find all breaks in Ireland with the combination of letters "Peak" in the break's name and all images taken at those breaks on the "31 Jan 2006":
